How long does it take to do an infomercial?
We've done infomercials
that took anywhere from 6 weeks to 1
year. We recommend you plan on 4-6 months
of active production.
If you're smart, you'll
get us or another creative group involved
in your project as soon as possible.
We can help you make the right decisions
early on that can save you headaches
and dollars later on.
Can you
give us a sample treatment for our show?
Unfortunately, no. With
20 years experience, our time is too
valuable to spec ideas. We'd be happy
to verbally discuss ideas or our reel,
but to go beyond that would be unfair
to us, our other clients, and to you.
Deciding on an idea
for your project is serious business,
not something you do off the cuff. Before
you let anybody tell you what you should
do, make sure they've spent all the
time necessary, which is usually far
more time than anybody can spec.
However, if you'd like,
McNamara & Associates can be retained
to develop creative concepts and direction
for you. Feel free to ask about this.
Can we lift :120
DR spots out of the show?
Yes, you can pull a
lot from an infomercial to make into
a DR spot, although you shouldn't just
tear the spots out of the show and run
them as stand alones.
Generally, we create
those spots to appear within the context
and continuity of the show. At the least,
you should expect to have to re-do at
least the copy and voice over.
Do you do focus
groups & research?
We have, and we welcome
any kind of research when we are creating
a show.
But direct response
itself is often the best market research
laboratory. Instead of spending $10,000
on focus groups, for example, sometimes
it's just better to make several different
versions of the show, put them on the
air, and see what real buyers think.
How much does McNamara & Associates
get paid?
Like all the best people
in direct response, we charge to cover
our costs, a creative fee plus points.
But I’ve heard about this writer who
will do it for less...
First off, not all creative
services are created equal.
In direct response,
your success or failure depends on how
good your creative is. That's why a
bargain script or production may, when
the results come in, have cost you the
whole production.
We spend time on your
project, we don't just slam it out or
hand it off. We are very aware that
clients can easily invest anywhere from
$100,000 to $750,000 or more in a show,
so the creative has to be terrific.
Our fees are reasonable.
That's why we've been in this business
for 20 years, working with some of the
best clients in the industry time after
time, and why we've had such outstanding
successes.
But your company
is so small. Don't I need a bigger company?
For what? Remember,
the key to your infomercial is the writer/producer.
That person will make or break your
show, just like your director will make
or break your conventional :30 commercial.
With us, you know exactly
who you'll be working with.
Remember also that we
have access to the same studios, editing
houses and craftsmen as bigger production
companies. We've worked with many of
these folks for years, on traditionally
lower-budget projects, so many times
we even get them for lower rates!
What’s the next
step if we want to go ahead with M&A?
Please feel free to
ask us about any aspect of our fees,
background, organization or operation.
Look at our demo reel, which shows you
samples of other shows we’ve done.
Then, if you still like
what you hear, tell us about your project,
your goals, your deadline and budget.
If you decide you’d
like us to work with you, McNamara &
Associates can put together a short
proposal/letter of agreement. We will
structure it so that you’ll have checkpoints
for concepts, outlines, scripts and
footage all throughout the development
of the show. You’ll pay us in installments
and have the right to discharge us if
you don’t like what we’re doing.
Over the last 20 years,
we've worked with some terrific people
and companies in direct response. We've
had some wonderful success, and we're
looking forward to the next one... with
you.
